My daughter has had a sweat problem for 15 years.......?

When we moved to Egypt from the UK it was quite a traumatic experience for us all. My daughter was 4 at the time and not long after moving here she was upset because noone wanted to hold her sweaty hands. I thought she would grow out of it but the condition has worsened - she is now 19 and the sweat drips from her hands; particularly when she is under stress. Is there any medication or cream or is the only answer an operation on the sweat glands and if this is the case what does it entail?

Is this loss of fluids dangerous? Can it affect the kidneys?

I do hope there is a solution. She is a student at uni, but is concerned about what career she can hope to achieve with this problem. Please help. We are still living in Egypt, but could return to UK for surgery if necessary.

Two approaches which may be of value are:

1. the use of tap water iontopheresis using either the device from Fisher Scientific in USA (which comes with DVD instructions) or the device from Drionic.

2. Botox injected directly into the palms (will give 4 to 6 months of relief). However, this approach is often very painful in the palms.

In either case you will need to see a dermatologist to set you up with the treatment.

She could get Botox. It will make her sweat glads stop working so hard for about 6-10 months.
